Overview

Rameshwaram, located on Pamban Island in Tamil Nadu, is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in India and forms a crucial part of the Char Dham Yatra. Home to the revered Ramanathaswamy Temple, this holy town is dedicated to Lord Shiva and holds immense spiritual importance in Hinduism. According to legend, this is the place where Lord Rama, after defeating Ravana, worshipped Lord Shiva to absolve the sin of killing a Brahmin and established one of the twelve Jyotirlingas here.

  • Char Dham Pilgrimage Site – An essential stop in the holy Char Dham circuit.

Tour Plan

Day 01 Arrival & Ramanathaswamy Temple Visit

Arrive in Rameshwaram via train or by road from Madurai (nearest airport). Check into your hotel and freshen up. Begin your spiritual journey with a visit to the Ramanathaswamy Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and a sacred Char Dham site. Take the holy dip at the Agni Theertham (beachside ritual bath), followed by bathing in the 22 temple theerthams inside the complex, believed to cleanse one’s sins. In the evening, attend the Shiva Aarti and spend some quiet time in the temple’s massive corridors, admiring the architecture. Overnight stay in Rameshwaram.

Day 02 Dhanushkodi & Ramayana Trail

After breakfast, take a trip to Dhanushkodi, the abandoned town at the southeastern tip of the island. Explore the remnants of the old church, railway station, and get views of the Ram Setu (Adam’s Bridge), which according to legend, was built by Lord Rama’s army to reach Lanka. On the way back, visit Vibhishana Temple, Kothandaramaswamy Temple, and Jatayu Theertham – each linked to Ramayana tales. Spend the evening relaxing at Ariyaman Beach or exploring the local markets. Return to the hotel for the night.

Day 03 Local Temples & Departure

Start your final day with a visit to Panchamukhi Hanuman Temple (which houses a floating stone believed to be used in Ram Setu) and Lakshmana Theertham. You may also explore Gandhamadhana Parvatham, a small hillock offering panoramic views and said to bear Lord Rama’s footprints. After a light lunch, check out and begin your return journey with a heart full of devotion and peace.
